Bol With its advantage on the resilience of Sahelian populations, poultry farming is of interest to all social strata. Despite this importance, several constraints hinder its development. In Niger, traditional poultry farming is characterized by scavenging farming in which the chickens earn their own food. This is considered low in protein; hence the deficiency effect in the diet of these chickens. To remedy this, the incorporation of maggots seemed appropriate. So, what would be the factors for its adoption? This research revealed that the adoption of maggots in poultry farming would face cultural sensitivities that are not very favorable to the larva-producing insect. Also, their production technique should meet the requirements of adaptability, simplicity, maintenance of the brooding and mothering instinct, non-cannibalism and added value compared to existing practices. However, the spectrum of use of maggots, expanding to waste management and natural soil amendment, could be of greater interest to municipalities, poultry growers and farmers.
