Songs of September: A Journey Through Folklore, Fields and Firelight

When day and night stand equal, stories gather. Folklore, Stories, Song and PoemsSeptember is the hinge of the year: a month of harvest and homecoming, of misted mornings and early fires. In Songs of September, Kevin McManus walks the old paths of Meán Fómhair-"the middle of harvest"-to find the customs, songs, and stories that shaped this season: the golden lift of the Harvest Moon, the bustle of fairs, the blessing of Michaelmas geese, and the quiet poise of the equinox.Blending folklore notes with lyrical essays and new poems, McManus gathers weather-lore, field wisdom, and kitchen-table memory into a warm, companionable almanac for the darker half of the year. Along the way, he includes an original short story, "The Day of Equal Shadows," a tender tale of inheritance and belonging set on the week when light and dark hold each other in balance.Evocative, rooted, and humane, Songs of September is a fireside book-something to keep by the kettle as the evenings draw in, and to return to each year when the hedges blacken and the geese begin to call. Now available on Kindle Unlimited
