Spy Kittens and The Big Wind

The sky turned green. The spies were ready. On the stillest, hottest day of the summer, the spy kittens spot the strangest clues yet: every cow in the pasture lying down, the birds gone silent, Smokie's fur puffed up big - and Sebastian the hawk streaking overhead with a warning: "Big wind coming, little spies!"Then the sky turns green, the weather radio crackles TORNADO WATCH, and Riley, Rowdy, and the whole family swing into Operation Safe and Sound - a real storm plan that works just like a spy mission. A safe spot (Plan A: the storm cellar). A BACKUP safe spot (Plan B: the hall closet). And a job for everyone, right down to little Brynlee. And when the WARNING comes and a fallen branch blocks the path to Plan A? Nobody panics. Everybody knows. "PLAN B!" - because spies always pack a spare.Inside the closet, with the lantern glowing and the big wind roaring past like a far-off train, Riley teaches the most important lesson of all: a big voice isn't a monster. We read the signs. We made a plan. We are exactly where we should be.Afterward comes the best part of ranch life: two families putting a neighbor's fence back together, a comedy cattle roundup (Halo herds one cow the wrong way, then MOSTLY the right way), a drone rescue, lemonade, and a porch supper under a washed-clean sky. "The storm was big. Together we were bigger."Kids will practice real storm-safety skills: - Read the signs - animal clues and sky clues that say weather's coming- Know a WATCH from a WARNING- Make a plan AND a backup plan - spies always know two ways to be safe- Know your job, stay calm, and wait for the all-clear- Help your neighbor and leave it better than you found itIncludes a fill-in family storm plan and an Official Storm-Ready Spy Certificate with lines for YOUR safe spot, YOUR backup spot, and YOUR job.
