Stigmatization Among Psoriasis Patients in Southern Tunisia

soriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease whose repercussions extend beyond skin involvement, affecting patients' quality of life on psychological and social levels. The visibility of lesions frequently exposes patients to stigmatization, social rejection, and an alteration of their well-being.This descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among 202 patients followed at the dermatology department of the Hédi Chaker University Hospital in Sfax. It aimed to assess perceived stigmatization, disease acceptance, and self-care capabilities, as well as to identify their associated factors.The results showed a persistent stigmatization, mainly related to the fear of being perceived as contagious or rejected. The majority of patients showed good acceptance of the disease. However, self-care capabilities remained insufficient in several participants. Better acceptance was associated with reduced stigmatization and a better level of self-care. These results highlight the need for comprehensive management of psoriasis that integrates psychological, social, and educational dimensions.
