Still Waters

From the Okanogan to the Skies of WarRobert King found a small diary in a drawer among his late mother's belongings. Inside the cover was a photograph of a young man in a military dress jacket. His father. A man Robert had known his whole life-and yet had never fully known. He knew the patient father who helped him through algebra homework, took him fishing in the backcountry, and watched the Rose Cup races every Father's Day. What he did not know was the young man who earned his pilot's wings just five days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, flew twenty-eight combat missions over North Africa and Italy, was shot down and badly burned behind German lines, and was carried to safety on a stretcher through occupied territory under cover of darkness.Still Waters is the story of Howard L. King-fighter pilot, engineer, and father-and of the son who discovered, too late to ask, how much larger his father's life had been than the portion he chose to share. It is a story of quiet courage, hidden sacrifice, and the legacy we inherit without ever realizing it.Still waters run deep.
