Student Textbook: TABE 13 and 14 Language Test Level D

STUDENT TEXTBOOK: TABE 13 AND 14 LANGUAGE TEST LEVEL DThis student textbook is designed to prepare adult learners for the TABE 13 and 14 Language Test Level D and for admission tests for vocational training. It includes exercises to help adult education and workforce programs and their learners meet the expectations of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).This textbook is organized into three (3) main sections: 1) Text types and purposes, which explore argumentative, journalistic, informative, explanatory, historical narrative, and literary texts, including poems, speeches, and short stories; 2) Knowledge of language, including advanced vocabulary, figurative language, and academic and domain-specific vocabulary; and 3) Conventions of standard English, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling, as required for professional and academic writing. The language exercises and the practice test in this textbook align with the TABE 13 and 14 Language Test Level D blueprints and cover the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Anchor Standards for Language.This language arts textbook presents twelve (14) chapters, each with 5 engaging language arts lessons and answer keys. The book also includes one practice test with answer keys. Each lesson includes answer keys. The book applies Bloom's Taxonomy's six levels of learning (Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating) to engage learners in active, rigorous reading, language, and writing tasks that build learners' academic vocabulary, English grammar knowledge, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, this textbook teaches learners to apply the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review) reading method to improve their reading comprehension and recall. This book's language arts activities teach and assess the following skills: Write arguments that support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.Write informative and explanatory paragraphs to share ideas and information.Show comprehension of journalistic texts (nonfiction writing designed to inform, educate, or analyze current events and issues for the public).Show comprehension of literary texts (such as novels, poems, speeches, or short stories-created primarily for storytelling).Demonstrate command of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking (sentence structure and formation, proper use of clauses to avoid structural errors such as fragments or run-on sentences).Apply knowledge of language and its conventions when writing, speaking, reading, or listening.Apply various strategies to practice the craft of writing, achieve precision in word choice, and adapt language to suit different audiences and purposes.Use academic and domain-specific words and phrases accurately and determine the meanings of new words and phrases using context clues.
