Bol Dan Shepherd grew up as the son of a lighthouse keeper, spendinghis childhood in remote New Zealand outposts. He trainedas a fitter and turner, served in the Navy, and later ran his ownmarine engineering business. Dan and his wife Joan went on tobuild an ocean-going steel yacht, a venture that carried them towork on Thursday Island and farther afield. Returning to Australia, they joined the ranks of the grey nomads, exploring the remotereaches of the outback. Now retired in Queensland, Dan is finallyputting a lifetime of adventure into print.
