He joined the Chinese Communist Party in 1937. From 1948 to 1954, he served successively as deputy editor-in-chief of the Mass Daily for the Ji-Cha-Re-Liao region and concurrently head of the Dazhong Daily, and later as director of the editorial department of the Tianjin Daily. After 1953, he held positions including deputy director of the Literature and Art Division of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, secretary-general of the Chinese Writers Association, and deputy secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group.
