This revised and expanded documentary edition presents a complete diplomatic transcription and literal English translation of the 5818 (1818) Statutes and Regulations of the Scottish Masonic Order, Ancient and Accepted Rite, for France and the French Possessions of America and the Indies.Issued under the authority of the Supreme Council of the 33rd and Last Degree, Scottish Grand Orient, the text preserves the constitutional, administrative, disciplinary, financial, and ceremonial structure of the body identified in this edition as the Jean-Baptiste Marie de la Houge Supreme Council.The volume documents the organization of the Supreme Council and its five chambers, the powers of its officers, the regulation of subordinate Lodges and high-degree bodies, the issuance of constitutions and patents, the control of archives and seals, financial administration, disciplinary procedures, recognition, regularization, and territorial jurisdiction.New to this edition is a documentary introduction examining the 1813 Arrêté of the Supreme Council for France. That ruling addressed claims advanced by Jean-Baptiste Marie de la Hogue and members of the displaced Supreme Council for the French possessions in America. It rejected the establishment of a parallel Supreme Council in Paris, required proof of regular initiation and lawful authority, and affirmed the exclusive territorial jurisdiction of the Supreme Council for France.Read alongside the 1818 Statutes, the Arrêté raises significant questions concerning acts performed outside the territory for which authority had originally been granted, including transmissions, appointments, and claims of independent sovereignty associated with de la Hogue's circle. At the same time, the record distinguishes de Grasse-Tilly from the broader petitioning group and does not automatically invalidate every lineage connected with him.Prepared according to strict diplomatic standards, this edition preserves the spelling, capitalization, punctuation, abbreviations, sequence, and institutional language of the original source.
