". . . if you kill me today >These words I write in sorrow >You say you love me But I don't feel very loved right now . . ." Surviving the Fathers of My Sons is an autobiographical collection of poetry and letters, curated for the purpose of speaking aloud words that cannot be spoken regarding the circumstances surrounding the existence of the author's two sons and their absent fathers. It is a means of providing answers for her sons' inevitable future questions, a voice for the author who has been rendered silent, and closure for the fractured family unit that has to continue their survival post biological father induced traumas. The poems are written in free verse, exploring different avenues of emotion and various uses of language to perpetuate deeper meaning and unfiltered human experience. This collection encaptures the multitude of emotional processes one can go through as a single mother enduring pregnancy alone, such as fear, joy, and loss.
