There is a closed door I know by heart.I know what it sounds like when it slams. I know the silence that follows. I know how it feels to stand on the other side, hand raised to knock - and then lower it again. My son was twenty-six when he shut himself away. Educated, talented, full of promise. And completely unreachable. I searched for a book that could help me understand what was happening, and how to stand beside him without making things worse. I couldn't find it. So I wrote it myself. I am not a psychologist. I am a mother who made every mistake in the book, learned slowly, and eventually found a way back to her son. This is what I know: these young people are not lost. They are not lazy. They are carrying a weight that most of us were never asked to carry at their age - and they are doing it alone, behind closed doors, convinced that no one understands. We can change that. If you are reading this, you already have what matters most: the willingness to try. That door opens. Let's make sure someone is waiting when it does.
