Sustainable Rural Development

Sustainable development is the core principle for improving the quality of life. The policies discussed in this book apply to rural areas, including country towns, villages, and the wider, largely undeveloped countryside up to the fringes of larger urban regions. Rural sustainability can be defined as the ongoing pursuit of development approaches that protect and strengthen rural communities, ensuring that economic, sociocultural, and environmental values are well aligned and responsive to the needs of all these dimensions. This book presents various technology-based methods to address the challenges faced by rural communities. Technologies such as innovative irrigation systems, technology-based cooking methods, and new ways of harvesting energy are described to support sustainable rural development. For more details, please visit
