Although Sydney had a terrible season, this move was slightly controversial, as it was rumoured the Sydney FC board had been in talks with Lavicka around Christmas time of 2008. Some fans were not in favour of this move either, as five managers in as many seasons created an unstable team, and there were calls for the club to keep Kosmina, to provide that stability.
