Tales from Vedas and Puranas: Timeless Indian Mythology Stories for Children

This manuscript presents child-friendly retellings inspired by selected hymns of the Vedas and stories found in the Puranic tradition. It is not a literal translation of any scripture. Some Vedic hymns are poetic praises rather than complete narrative stories; those chapters are therefore imaginative learning stories built around the qualities praised in the hymns. The language has been simplified for children aged three to eight. Frightening or violent details have been softened, while the central values-truth, courage, devotion, humility, compassion, responsibility, respect for nature, and wise action-have been preserved. Parents and teachers may read the stories aloud to younger children. Older early readers may enjoy them independently. Sanskrit names can be pronounced slowly and naturally; perfection is not necessary for enjoying the stories.
