Having finally tasted success with the 1.5-liter RA272 the year before, the Honda engineers unfortunately had to start from scratch again, and the RA273 was not ready until the Italian GP in 1966. Featuring a lightweight monocoque frame with aluminum panels and powered by a 90 degree V- 12 engine, it was driven by Richie Ginther and John Surtees, Ginther finishing the season in a respectable 4th place overall.
