This book investigates allegations of politically targeted abductions, torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial detention in Tanzania between 2023 and 2026. Centered on the corrected chronology of the David Djumbe abduction and the Prime Minister's May 23, 2026 statement that he "knows the game," the study draws on documentation from the Tanganyika Law Society, public interventions by BAK Mwabukusi and Bishop Emmaus Mwamakula, allegations advanced by Maria Sarungi-Tsehai, and independent reporting concerning Abdul Ameir and Sumai Ramadhani Mrwiru. The study finds five recurring patterns: the disproportionate targeting of political dissenters; the absence of prosecutions despite recurring allegations against security personnel; contradictory messaging from senior government officials; unresolved tensions between activist accusations and official documentation; and the emergence of allegations concerning politically connected security networks that remain only partially verified. The book concludes that Tanzania faces not merely isolated incidents of abuse, but a deepening crisis of institutional credibility and accountability. It argues that an independent Truth, Justice, and Accountability Commission represents the most credible path toward restoring constitutional trust and national reconciliation.
