The monograph considers the scientific and practical foundations for ensuring the stability of the sides of deep open pits during drilling and blasting operations. A comprehensive analysis of theoretical research and industrial experience of open pit mining of mineral deposits, aimed at establishing the rational parameters of the sides and ledges of open pits is carried out. Particular attention is paid to the study of physical and mechanical properties of rocks forming the instrument massif, as well as the assessment of their influence on the stability of slopes. The results of physical and mathematical modeling of seismic impact of explosions of dispersed borehole explosive charges are presented. On the basis of the obtained theoretical and experimental results the effective methods of rock mass state control are proposed to ensure the stability of the sides of deep quarries. The schemes of orientation of rows of boreholes at mass explosions, and also seismic safe way of blasting operations in the near-contour zone of a quarry are developed. The technology of scarp slope formation on the limiting contour of the quarry with the use of inclined contour boreholes is proposed.
