Tempel: Susanne Ring

Provides an overview of latest exhibitions and current works in ceramics and paper, and also an insight into the work of Susanne Ring, especially her unique and ambivalent clay figures. Text in English and German. Susanne Ring (b. 1966) creates enigmatic creatures from fired clay. Though recognisable as physical figures through simple features such as a head, arms, and legs, they do not duplicate prototypical patterns. These bodies are not organisms that have grown, but fragile shells that, as the mediating boundaries between the individual and the outside world, have themselves been transformed into figures. However, instead of answering the question as to whether human corporeality is a blessing or a curse, they embody the right to ambivalence and non-identity in the truest sense of the word.
