In various respects E. de Jongh, professor emeritus at Utrecht University, has changed our understanding of seventeenth-century art in the Netherlands. On the occasion of his sixt-fifth birthday a group of Dutch art-historians has written ten essays in his honor in Simiolus, the influential periodical of which De Jongh was one of the founders. This is the trade-edition of that triple issue with contributions by Marten Jan Bok, Josua Bruyn, Jan Piet Filedt Kok, Peter Hecht, Michael Hoyle, Ger Luijten, Hessel Miedema, Robert Scheller, Jeroen Stumpel, Pieter J.J. van Thiel and Ilja M. Veldman. The studies reflect De Jongh's interests: iconology, art-theory (included is an annotated English translation of Philips Angel's Lof der Schilder-konst of 1642) as well as the history of collecting.
