the Academy of Wanderer

The Academy of the Wanderer is an imaginal journey through the Major Arcana of the Tarot.Phaedrus has spent years within the walls of the Academy, studying philosophy, symbol, and the mysteries of the cosmos. Then his teachers send him away with a simple injunction: he has read enough books. Now he must learn from the road. What follows is a sequence of encounters in which knowledge must become experience. A magician offers him the tools of his art. A priestess takes away his words. An emperor asks him who he is. An empress returns him to the abundance of the world. Along the way he meets lovers, hermits, beasts, rulers, wanderers, and a raven who becomes his companion.Drawing on Tarot, Hermetic philosophy, classical myth, and the Western imaginal tradition, The Academy of the Wanderer is a short philosophical novel about the movement from abstraction into embodiment, from isolated knowledge into relationship, and from certainty into a world that is alive with meaning. It is a story of friendship, initiation, enchantment, and the strange education that begins when the classroom is left behind.
