The Adventures of Leroy the Racing Mule is a fictional story based on the actual Great American Horse Race of 1976--a race famously won by a man riding a mule named, Lord Fauntleroy. While the characters and most events are invented, the setting and spirit of this historic bicentennial race have been preserved in this epic story of endurance, determination, and devotion to God, family, and country.Be prepared to fall in love with Leroy--a kindhearted and determined mule with long, soft, floppy ears. As a young colt growing up on a ranch that trained Thoroughbred racehorses, all Leroy ever dreamed about was running fast and winning prizes. But sadly, growing up a mule, he didn't fit in with the other young horses, so he was teased and made fun of a lot.Mean things were often said: "You look funny," "You hee-haw instead of whinny," "Your ears are too big," but worst of all, "You will never win a race!"Then in the summer of 1976, years of prayers are suddenly answered, as Leroy enters the biggest horse race this country has ever seen--kicking off in Frankfort, New York, covering thirteen states in all, and ultimately finishing three months later in Sacramento, California.Saddle up and join Leroy, along with a cast of amazing characters, as he treks 3,000 miles across America while competing against some of the fastest horses from around the world.
