The aesthetic and everyday experience of La Fontaine Park in Montreal

What role does the park play in the daily lives of city dwellers? The planning of urban parks has often been considered in quantitative terms. This study examines the experiences of users of La Fontaine Park in Montreal (QC). We sought to understand the park from a new perspective, focusing on the practical use and characterisation of the space. The focus is on the qualitative dimension, through an analysis of the aesthetic and everyday experience of the park. The approach is rooted in a sociocultural model, supported by a theoretical framework drawing on landscape architecture, the anthropology of the senses and design. The aim of this book is to provide an initial analysis of La Fontaine Park by examining the various dimensions that make up its users' experiences. We hope to contribute, in our own small way, to advancing our understanding of this space, both from an experiential point of view and from a landscape perspective on the understanding of urban parks.
