THE ANCESTRAL OWNERSHIP AND CHANGES IN AUTHORITY OVER LANDS: NORTHERN GHANA

This book presents a research piece on spiritual heritage, and power dynamics among the British Colonial master's and the traditional secular office holders over land control and ownership in Northern Ghana, from precolonial, colonial, and postcolonial periods. The study will also present synopsis on the legal history of Northern Ghana Lands. The presentation will focus on the allodial titles, the usufructuary title of land by citizens and position of tenants in Northern Ghana. Contexts on land ownership and management in Northern Ghana has been comprehensively presented. The research covered the basic historical backgrounds of all the traditional areas in Northern Ghana.Land ownership has become a serious issue in Northern Ghana. The recent developments and social media lamentations by some few ethnic groups quest for paramount chief and land ownership concerning the creation of a region is of great concerns to the indigenous ethnic groups who are coexisting with the later migrant ethnic groups.This is the reason for writing this book to educate readers on the allodial titles, the usufructuary title of lands by citizens and position of tenants in Northern Ghana.
