The New Urbanism movement continues to redefine how illustrations are used in community planning. Since the groundbreaking exhibition in 2012, which served as the basis for Volume 1, New Urbanists have continued to explore techniques of visual communication, enabling both professionals and non-professionals to engage in the design of their cities. This book picks up right where Volume 1 left off. A distinguished jury added more than 300 artworks to the collection; these were created by over 150 illustrators. Volume 2 explores the expansive application of New Urbanism to the reform of planning, design, and development practices. The work showcases a remarkable range, including: Sprawl Repair, Form-Based Codes, Agrarian Urbanism, Lean Urbanism, Missing Middle housing, Incremental Development, climate change adaptation, and Tactical Urbanism. While primarily focused on the period 2010-2025, this book also includes some rediscovered classic works from earlier periods of the movement. As with Volume 1, each illustration in Volume 2 includes a narrative snapshot where the artist shares their insights on the work’s intent. All author royalties from both volumes go to support the Congress for the New Urbanism nonprofit organization.
