The Baby on Lena's Porch

Lena Wengerd has the truest hands the district midwife has trained in thirty years-and a secret that could cost her everything. Since a fall from the haymow at fifteen, her left leg has grown steadily weaker. Ashamed of becoming a burden, she has hidden the truth from her family, from her mentor, and from Levi Glick, the quiet wheelwright's son who faithfully drives her home after every singing. Then, on a bitter October night, everything changes. A newborn baby girl is left on Lena's porch in a market basket, with eight penciled words pinned to her blanket. And before dawn, Levi disappears without a single word of goodbye. By Sunday, the church has done its arithmetic-and reached one devastating conclusion. While Lena raises the abandoned child and defends the man everyone believes has betrayed her, Levi is forty miles away honoring a promise he cannot explain. The silence meant to protect the people they love is slowly weaving a web neither of them can escape. As whispered accusations spread through the district, Lena's carefully guarded secret grows harder to hide. And when two long-kept promises collide on one ordinary staircase, the truth threatens to shatter every life it touches. Rich with faith, hope, and quiet courage, The Baby on Lena's Porch is a heartwarming Amish romance about sacrificial love, unexpected family, and the extraordinary grace that can be found when the truth finally comes home.
