The Battle For Wellington Road: A Lancastrian Boy’s Story

This is a true story about a struggling one parent family's survival of the seventies and early 1980s. Situated in the city of Lancaster, Lancashire, the book takes the reader through a series of events as seen and experienced through the eyes of the youngest of three brothers, Heath. From his earliest memories to stories of struggles and turbulent family times he witnessed as a young boy. Told with affection, warmth and humour and with an appreciation for simpler times, the story starts from infancy after the sudden and abrupt departure of his Dad from the family home. It charts his Mum's enduring endeavours to provide for the family and rebuild their lives after being left with virtually nothing. With three infant boys to bring up on her own, her search for happiness is often punctuated with troublesome times. It's a gripping story of love and loss, trauma and uncertainty, battling against the odds to keep a family afloat and the affects these events have on the family. Being autobiographical, these events are punctuated by stories and historic events from the era through the eyes of the author.
