Bol Longing for God 'like a dry, weary land without water' Psalm 62Continuing his reflection on the spirituality of ageing, Brian Gallagher's The Blessing of Ageing adds new and deeper intuitions: seeing life differently, forgiving others, and thanking people we have forgotten. These new insights do not ignore the diminishment of old age, but simply cast new light on the joy experienced.Writing from his own experience, but helped by C. S. Lewis' Surprised by Joy, Brian talks of both the work and the blessing of old age. He concludes that the blessing of ageing is not the younger person's felt joy, but is on a deeper level than any emotion, the fruit of deep freedom. Brian calls it simply 'joy', his personal vocation.
