The Book of EZEKIEL-PRAYER AND NIGHT The book of Ezekiel is filled with the glory, holiness, judgment, mercy, restoration, and life-giving power of God. It is a book in which God speaks to His people in the midst of displacement, disappointment, rebellion, judgment, and hope. Ezekiel ministered during one of the most difficult periods in Israel's history. Jerusalem was facing judgment, many of the people had been carried into Babylonian captivity, and the nation was experiencing the consequences of turning away from God. Yet captivity could not silence the voice of God. God still spoke. God still revealed His glory. God still called for repentance. God still promised restoration. And God still had a future for His people. This is what makes Ezekiel such a powerful foundation for prayer. There will be seasons in our lives when circumstances appear dry, broken, scattered, or beyond repair. There will be mornings when we need strength to face what is before us and nights when we need the peace of God to quiet our hearts. In those seasons, we must remember the valley of dry bones. God asked Ezekiel: Ezekiel 37:3 (KJV) "Son of man, can these bones live?" Ezekiel answered: "O Lord GOD, thou knowest." What looked dead was not beyond the reach of God. What looked scattered was not beyond His ability to gather. What appeared hopeless was not beyond His power to restore. The same book that contains visions of judgment also contains promises of cleansing, healing, restoration, resurrection, renewed worship, and the returning glory of God. Therefore, The Book of Ezekiel: Prayers Day and Night has been designed as more than a collection of prayers. It is a spiritual journey through Ezekiel. Each morning prayer prepares the believer to walk through the day conscious of God's presence, Word, holiness, direction, and power. Each night prayer provides an opportunity to reflect, surrender, repent, give thanks, receive peace, and rest in the faithfulness of God. We will pray through the themes of Ezekiel: the glory of God, the call of God, the watchman, obedience, repentance, personal responsibility, cleansing, a new heart, a new spirit, dry bones, restoration, healing waters, renewed worship, and the presence of God. >
