The Butcher's Vengeance: 2

For a year, she has been a ghost haunting the mud of the Lowlands. They whisper her name in the taverns and the market squares: Cheveux-Sang. The Girl with the Blood-Hair. A reaper with a bone-grip falchion and a sinewy hatred that never sleeps.Beatrix is no longer the nymph of Worthy Farm. She is a moving sequence of vengeance, tracking the man who caved in her uncle's skull and left her world in ashes. But Guyson Malvoir is not a man who can be hunted in the shadows. He is an architect of a new, darker world, leaving a trail of breadcrumbs and forfeit loyalties that lead directly to the heart of 14th-century Paris. In the City of Light, the violence is hidden behind Gothic spires and silk tapestries. Here, the House of Valois rots from within, and Malvoir is the cold hand feeding the infection. He doesn't hide from Beatrix; he choreographs her arrival, toying with her cadence like a master composer. But when a skirmish in the Parisian gutters leaves Beatrix physically forfeit and drowning in a fever, the blueprint of her revenge suffers a catastrophic collapse.Saved not by a saviour, but by the monster himself, Beatrix is thrust into a world of opiate-induced dreams and intrinsic luxury. In a room above the city, amidst the haze of poppy-milk and the touch of cold steel, Malvoir begins her unmaking. The hunt has changed. The ledger is open. And the toll will be paid in blood.
