These days, logistics is on everyone's lips: supply chain management (SCM), Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), 4th-party logistics providers (4PL), supply chain collaboration, e-logistics, and many other management terms have become firmly established in our minds. There is hardly any area of responsibility within a company that is not influenced by the cross-functional role of logistics. Consequently, there is significant potential for well-structured logistics to provide the foundation for a company's profitability and competitiveness. Many companies have recognised this potential and have optimised their internal logistics - or the part of the supply chain under their control - to the greatest possible extent. The internal opportunities within the consumer goods sector - the focus of this thesis - have therefore, for the most part, already been exhausted. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate, using practical examples, how additional benefits for industry and retail can nevertheless be achieved through the consistent application of ECR tools, by making further improvements in planning, information exchange and the even more efficient use of resources.
