THE COMPLETE DIARIES OF THEODOR HERZL - VOLUME II: NEW THREE-VOLUME EDITION

The story continues as Theodor Herzl's vision enters the world of international politics and diplomacy. In this second volume of The Complete Diaries of Theodor Herzl, comprising Books Five through Eight, the political Zionist movement has moved beyond its earliest beginnings. Congresses have been convened, an international organization is taking shape, and Herzl now faces the far more difficult task of transforming a political vision into practical reality. These pages follow Herzl through an extraordinary succession of negotiations, journeys, correspondence, political encounters, organizational struggles, hopes, and disappointments. European capitals, diplomatic circles, political leaders, and the growing Zionist movement itself become the setting for his persistent search for recognition and support.Yet these are not memoirs written with the benefit of hindsight. Herzl records events as they happen. The reader encounters plans before their outcome is known, negotiations while their success remains uncertain, and private reflections alongside the public events that would later become part of history. The result is an unusually immediate historical record-not only of Herzl himself, but of the development of modern political Zionism at a decisive stage in its formation.More than a century later, the diaries retain the remarkable quality that makes them unique: we witness history before it knows what it will become.Volume II contains Books Five through Eight of Herzl's eighteen diary books.
