The Cox Chronicles traces one family's journey across three centuries: from Arthur Cox of Dorset, christened in 1719, through the photographers, gilders and artists of Victorian Weymouth, to the four young Cox siblings who sailed for Australia in the 1880s to build new lives in New South Wales and the West.At its heart is the story of Hubert and his wife Isabella Henderson - daughter of an East India Company sergeant major who guarded convicts aboard the Vimeira in 1865, and a girl who spent part of her childhood in the Perth orphanage before becoming Northam's Lady Mayoress. Their seven daughters, and the generations that followed, carry the story through two world wars, the Depression, the polio years and life on the wheatbelt farms, right up to the present day.Drawing on parish registers, census records, certificates, DNA research and the newspapers of the day, and illustrated with family photographs spanning more than a century, The Cox Chronicles is both a family treasure and a vivid portrait of ordinary lives lived through extraordinary times - in Dorset, London, and pioneer Western Australia.
