The doctoral programme in question

The doctoral journey is a gruelling rite of passage, and once you embark on it, you must be prepared to devote the bulk of two or three years-or even more-to your thesis work. Doctoral research initially takes the form of a cognitive process that can give rise to technical and strategic uncertainty. Interpersonal conflict between the doctoral student and their supervisory team, or even between the doctoral student and those around them, can sap their momentum. To succeed, the doctoral student must have a sound knowledge of the core discipline and other related fields, a firm grasp of the scientific method, and must develop the profile of a scientist. To this end, the doctoral student must make good use of their relationships with their human and material environment.
