The government of the state of Michoacan has created a model of cultural tourism in order to share the experience of discovering the work, environment and sentiments of an achievement that was exceptional in the history of humanity: the Don Vasco Route.Given the opportunity that line New World represented, Vasco de Quiroga attempted to create a fair society; he rejected the idea of conquest, which subjugated the people and imposed its own culture, and instead proposed a new model that acknowledged the spirituality and abilities of all men and, in particular, of the p'urhépecha people.Quiroga, that Renaissance man who founded one of the first higher education institutions on the American continent, introduced new methods of education. He was outstanding as a social worker, and succeeded in integrating such aspects as health, agricultural and craft production, justice and community hospitality.Vasco de Quiroga gained the recognition of the people of Michoacan, who granted him the maximum attribute, and which has survived for almost 500 years: the respectful title of "Tata".
