It voices the most dreadful insinuations and slander about the Jews. These are the most lethal weapons that exist, because they kill so much more often than military weapons. The Jewish tradition regards slander as a deadly weapon and spares no words in its condemnation. The Talmud rightly equates slander with flagrant atheism, with murder. Slander is a more terrible crime than killing, because three people are destroyed at the same time: the one who slanders, the one who listens to it and the one who is slandered. The effect of the written word goes from one person to the next, from one day to the next and from one generation to the next. It spreads from country to country and from continent to continent.
