Tigzirt, the study area, is situated in a coastal zone 40 km from the capital of the wilaya of Tizi-Ouzou (Algeria). It is affected by three instances of instability which share the same predisposing factors and the same triggering causes. The deformation mechanisms of these landslides result from an overall northward movement of the site. For all three landslides, failure occurs at the interface between the bedrock and the overlying surface deposits. The study focuses on an urban area in the town centre (the most extensive landslide). The lack of usable site data was compensated for by carrying out a spatial analysis of the available data, which enabled a lithological profile of the site to be determined. A numerical simulation was then carried out using Plaxis 2D software (finite element software). The study made it possible to determine the likely shape and position of the failure surface, taking into account several possible groundwater table levels. The results demonstrated the significant influence of water on the structure of the movement and on the safety factor. This effect was also observed in the field.
