the ELIJAH HALL CHRONICLES: A Novel of John Paul Jones and American Revolution

The Elijah Hall Chronicles is a sweeping historical novel of loyalty, ambition, war and the uneasy birth of a new nation. When Elijah Hall is drawn from an ordinary life into the violent currents of the eighteenth century, he finds himself serving alongside one of the most brilliant and difficult naval commanders of the American Revolution: John Paul Jones. From crowded British ports and dangerous Atlantic crossings to raids, battles and the brutal contest for independence, Elijah witnesses history not from the safety of hindsight, but from the deck beneath his feet. He sees the courage that becomes legend, the vanity hidden beneath honour, the ordinary sailors whose names rarely survive, and the compromises made by men who claim to be fighting for liberty.Jones is fearless, ambitious and impossible to ignore. To some he is a hero. To others, a pirate. To Elijah, he is something more complicated: a commander capable of extraordinary courage, fierce loyalty and equally extraordinary pride. But this is not only the story of famous men and famous battles. It is also the story of Margaret, of those left behind when ships sail, of women building lives in a world that expects them merely to wait, and of the friendships, loves and loyalties tested by distance and revolution. As America struggles to become a nation, Elijah must decide what freedom, duty and honour actually mean when the ideals proclaimed by nations collide with the lives of ordinary people.Rich in period atmosphere and grounded in the turbulent world of the American Revolution, The Elijah Hall Chronicles blends real historical events with deeply human fictional lives to explore the men and women who stood close enough to history to feel its consequences. For readers who enjoy character-driven historical fiction, naval adventure, the Age of Sail, John Paul Jones, and the human stories behind great events.
