"Always be the best and surge ahead of your peers," advised Peleus to his son Achilles, as Achilles departed for school more than three thousand years ago. It still continues to inspire people.Achilles became one of the heroes of the Trojan War, but there were others, those who fought at Marathon, Thermopylae, Lepanto, Midway, and Normandy. There were those who competed at the Olympics and the Isthmian Games. In more recent times there were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin, Queen Elizabeth II, Martin Luther, Martin Luther King, Jr., Golda Meier, Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama, Madame Curie, Marian R. Croak, Tertullian, St. Augustine, Mahatma Gandhi, and countless others who shined as elites.Today, being the best is militantly challenged by MAGA followers, the millions of men and women who are proud to vaunt their ignorance and that they didn't go to college.(About the Author)Ignacio Götz was born in 1933 in Caracas, Venezuela. He left when he was fifteen, spending two years in Spain, and then thirteen years in India, where he earned two BA degrees. "I came to the U.S. in 1964 to study for an MA at Columbia University, and then earned a Ph.D. at New York University in 1968. I got married in 1965 to Katherine Griggs, and we had three daughters. I taught for thirty-five years at Hofstra University, and retired in 2001. Since then, I have resided in Point Harbor, a small town near the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I live on land that belonged to my wife's father's family since 1788. This is my twenty-sixth book."
