The Enduring Presence of Christianity in Lebanon

Christianity came to Lebanon, then part of the Land of Canaan, in the first century AD and developed through the preaching of the apostles and early disciples. In The Enduring Presence of Christianity in Lebanon, Fadi P. Deek reflects on the historical factors that have enabled Christianity to survive and thrive in the country of his birth. Enduring centuries of adversity, oppression, and persecution, it remained a beacon of resilience for Christians in the Levant. The author discusses the impact of the Roman and Byzantine empires, the Arab and Muslim conquests, the Crusades for the Holy Land, and the First World War on the eventual formation of modern Lebanon as a pluralistic nation and homeland for the Christians. He concludes with a reflection on the patterns and consequences of past decisions that hold potential to inform the future of his beloved country. Here is an important book for our time.
