A reading of the Epistle of James in general, and of the first chapter in particular, reveals that James is sensitive to issues concerning the dignity of the poor. This is why, in this book, the reader will discover what he proposes as an ethics of the poor-known as the ethics of witness. This ethic calls on the poor to take charge of their lives and to resist uncompromisingly in the face of the hardships of poverty. Thus, this book proposes various strategies, including fraternal solidarity through sharing, wisdom, and perseverance, while discouraging feelings of resignation. In short, the book revisits the epistle's revolutionary program, which aims to overthrow alienating social, political, and economic structures in order to build a world where life is good.
