It accuses from no faith and asks no one to take its word; every charge is proven with the pages of the genre itself. At the bottom of that task waits what the occult mimics and does not possess: reason exercised without fear, the inheritance of Epictetus, of Seneca, of Marcus Aurelius. It offers no mysteries, but something more arduous and more worthy: lucidity.
