The Gospel of Matthew Of all the Gospels, Matthew is the one that holds the most possibilities for counselors. This Gospel was written to demonstrate to Jews, by his words and works, that Jesus Christ is the Messiah of Old Testament prophecy. Many counselees are weak in their faith and need the sort of buttressing that Matthew can give them. It is a faith-strengthening book and should be recognized and used as such by counselors. The Gospel of Mark Mark presents a Savior Who, not frantically, but urgently, moves from one event to another, never wasting time, always buying up the opportunities. The Busy Servant heralds, heals, and helps. Mark demonstrates the authority of Christ through samples-of healing, speeches, casting out of demons, control of nature, and His Lordship over rites and ceremonies. Mark presents a savior who is in charge. That, of course, is precisely what every counselee needs, and it is the privilege of every biblical counselor to offer the counsel and help of just such a Lord.
