the Handset That Swallowed Church

It was born on a church pew, watching a mother silence her crying infant not with a lullaby but with a glowing screen. In a living room, watching a husband and wife sit three feet apart, each laughing at something on a different device. At a school gate, watching a driver reverse out of a crowded parking lot with one eye on a text message, while children walked behind the very bumper that eye could not see.The Handset That Swallowed the Church is a pastor's honest reckoning with what the smartphone is quietly doing to Christian devotion, marriage, parenting, and church attendance - not from hostility toward technology, but from the conviction that a gift misused does not stop being dangerous simply because it is also, in other hands, a blessing.Across 32 chapters, Rev. Pastor Fabrice Mbuyi Tshimanga traces this erosion through Scripture's own last-days warnings - Matthew 24's love growing cold, 2 Timothy 3's perilous times, Daniel's knowledge increased and men running to and fro - before turning to genuine, practical restoration: discernment in an age of information overload, a biblical theology of rest and attention, a 28-day digital fast, and real testimonies of what change actually looks like.Written for the believer who senses something has shifted but hasn't yet named it, and for the pastor watching it happen from the pulpit, this book offers no easy nostalgia and no blanket condemnation of technology itself - only a clear-eyed call to notice, before the cost compounds any further, what that device in your pocket may be doing to your walk with God.Includes a complete 28-week group and personal study guide, a practical digital fast guide, glossary, FAQ, and Scripture index - making this both a personal read and a ready-made church small-group resource.
