Bol Grounded in a global historical perspective, this book focuses on maritime East Asia during the late Ming period, taking "interaction" as its core concept to reconstruct the complex relationships between Western powers, China, and its neighboring regions in the context of early globalization. Drawing upon primary sources in Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, and English - and cross-verifying them with Chinese documentary records - the book reconstructs the historical process of textual production surrounding the "Lin Feng incident," corrects the erroneous accounts in the Ming History regarding the first Sino-Dutch encounter, and reveals the political tensions between the traditional tributary order and the emerging colonial expansion system, thereby shedding light on the actual dynamics of institutional confrontation between China and the West. The book also reassesses the scale of Sino-Philippine trade and the volume of American silver flowing into China during the late Ming, and demonstrates that the maritime trade network in East Asia underwent both "divergence" and "reorganization" during the Chongzhen reign. The volume concludes with important primary documents, including original drafts and translations of diplomatic correspondence from the Governor-General of the Philippines, providing a new empirical foundation for understanding the history of Sino-foreign relations in the late Ming period.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿Li Qing (b. 1985, Shehong, Sichuan) is an Associate Professor at Nanjing University's School of History and Center for Ming Studies, specializing in Sino-foreign relations and maritime history during the Ming-Qing period.
