The Italian Class: a novel

A language class is supposed to teach people how to speak. Elena's students are about to discover when they must act.At a senior center in California, an unlikely circle gathers each week to practice Italian. They are widows, travelers, skeptics, dreamers, and friends who have learned that fluency matters less than courage. Their lessons are filled with espresso, teasing, unexpected confessions, and the comic hazards of speaking before thinking. Then a journey to Trieste carries the class far beyond the safety of grammar. In a luminous city shaped by sea winds, shifting borders, and beautiful facades, a stranger's story draws them into a mystery involving a missing woman, a false identity, and a danger that cannot be dismissed as a translation error. To help, Elena and her students must decide how much they are willing to risk-and what friendship requires when the right words are no longer enough.Warm, witty, and suspenseful, The Italian Class is a novel about late adventures, unexpected loyalty, and the new lives that become possible when ordinary people dare to say yes.
