the Journal’s Of Fletcher Jones: A Bullet Behind Counter

A Bullet Behind the Counter Book Four of The Journals of Fletcher Jones Detective Fletcher Jones has spent years exposing the corruption festering beneath his city's respectable surface. After bringing down powerful figures connected to Commissioner Hale's criminal empire, Fletcher finds himself buried in forgotten cases and unwanted assignments. But when a young woman is found shot to death in the back office of a neighborhood pharmacy, what appears to be a simple suicide quickly reveals itself as something far more dangerous. Lena Ward was more than a bookkeeper. She was a woman carrying secrets powerful men were willing to kill to protect. As Fletcher follows a trail of missing money, falsified prescriptions, political payoffs, and broken promises, he uncovers a network of corruption that survived long after Hale's downfall. At the center stands Walter Kane-a respected businessman whose carefully polished reputation hides a criminal enterprise built on greed, deception, and fear. With witnesses disappearing, bodies turning up in the river, and powerful interests determined to keep the truth buried, Fletcher finds himself pulled into one of the most dangerous investigations of his career. In a city where justice is negotiable and respectability often masks violence, solving Lena's murder may cost him everything. Dark, atmospheric, and steeped in classic noir tradition, A Bullet Behind the Counter is a gripping tale of corruption, betrayal, and the price of uncovering the truth when an entire city profits from the lie.
