Bob White, a southern politician, was trapped between two social worlds. The civil side threatened a racial uproar and pursued the acceptable conduit for justice, the courts. The criminal side pursued their own form of redress, murder. He had to act fast. So Bob thought he could get the heat off of him by politically attacking his opponent, Reverend Bryant. Yet, in the scale of probity, there was an ally. Johnnie Mae Dixon was forced by her heart to protect one of her babies, Bob. She rallied the children she had mentored who were willing to march on the wisdom of the last matriarch. All of their actions were done under the watchful eye of an SBI Agent.
