Bol In 1920s Australia, child emigrant Mabel Fishley, now a wife and mother, searches for her roots. She arrives unannounced at a stranger's house to learn the history of her great grandfather. Instead of the tale she expected - of a swashbuckling sea captain - she hears the intriguing story of a lowly Derbyshire labourer flung by circumstance to the other side of the world and the goldfields of Victoria. Isaac Hinds was born at the foot of the C19th. His attempts to earn an honest living and raise a family are frustrated by chance and by a system stacked against the working classes. Could anyone blame him if he turned to crime? Yes, and harshly so. He was transported to Van Dieman's Land; his wife deprived of a husband, his children of a father, his mother of a son. This is a story of family. A story of survival.
