the Lighthouse That Was Afraid of Dark

On a rock at the edge of the sea stands a little lighthouse named Otto. By day, Otto is brave: he waves his light at the wheeling gulls and watches the boats roll by. But when the sun goes down and the dark creeps over the water, Otto is afraid, so he shuts his light up tight. Then one stormy night, a little fishing boat loses her way in the waves, and Otto understands: the dark he fears is the very dark the boat is lost in. If he can open his light, even just a crack, he might bring her safely home. The Lighthouse That Was Afraid of the Dark is a gentle, rhythmic bedtime story about courage, empathy, and shining for others even when you are scared. With a soothing refrain made for reading aloud, it reassures every child who has ever been afraid of the dark: you can be scared and still shine.
