She was looking for somewhere safe. She just didn't know what safe was supposed to feel like. When a frightened young girl wanders into the woods, she doesn't realize she's lost. She's simply trying to get away from the people who have hurt her. Then, without warning, she finds herself in Moonfern Hollow-a hidden world filled with gentle Keepers, magical creatures, talking animals, and people who don't demand anything from her. At first, she barely speaks. She freezes when she's frightened, hides behind a blanket, and doesn't understand how to accept kindness without expecting it to disappear. But slowly, one gentle encounter at a time, Moonfern Hollow begins to teach her something she has never known: She doesn't have to earn care. She is allowed to have needs. She is allowed to cry. She is allowed to play. And she is not broken. As she builds little houses from sticks, moss, stones, and clay, discovers friendship, encounters creatures she once would have been terrified of, and finally finds words for some of the things that happened to her, she begins to discover the child who has been hiding underneath all the fear. This is a story about healing, trust, gentleness, and finding your way back to the parts of yourself you thought were gone. But it is also a deeply personal story. Moonfern Hollow became a place for the younger version of me who once had nowhere safe to go. I wanted to create the place I wish she could have found-a place where her needs were noticed, her fear was respected, her tears were safe, and someone would stay. Perhaps this story can become a little piece of that place for someone else, too. For anyone who has ever felt too afraid to speak, too different to belong, or too broken to be loved, Moonfern Hollow has a doorway waiting.
